Canoeing instructor course

Would you like to become a certified canoeing instructor?

This training focuses on paddling instruction, pedagogical skills, group management on the water, safety issues and teaching skills. You will also learn rescue and towing techniques suitable for different situations and get to practise teaching situations.

A canoeing instructor can teach basic courses and lead canoeing trips in easy conditions. The instructor course complies with the training system of the Finnish Canoeing and Rowing Federation, and a certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the course. The course is held at the Korpoström Archipelago Centre in the Archipelago National Park.

Course time: Weekend, starting on Friday at 6 p.m. and ending on Sunday by 4 p.m.

Location: Korpoström Skärgårdscentrum, Korppoo (Korpoströmintie 832, 21720 Korppoo). See more detailed travel directions to Korppoo here. . The course days are spent on the water in the Archipelago Sea National Park. During the day we will have a self-sufficient lunch break. It is possible to stay overnight in a hotel in Korpoström at a very low course price (see more below under "overnight stay").

Preliminary requirement: Meloja 2 folding display (EPP2) or equivalent.

Price: €295 (incl. VAT).

If necessary You can rent a kayak and dry suit from us for the duration of the course. Kayak rental is €60 and dry suit rental is €65. during the course.

The price includes: Tuition, Canoeing and Rowing Federation registration fee, certificate and course materials.

Number of participants: maximum 6 persons

Trainer: Gabriel Sydänvirta. Paddling instructor for the Finnish Sea Paddling Association and the Finnish Paddling and Rowing Federation. Gabriel lives in Korppoo.

Overnight stay: The course lasts for a weekend. You can stay overnight on site. Archipelago center in Korpoström at the very low course price of 23€/person. Accommodation is in shared rooms for 3-4 people. Everyone brings their own sheets/towels. You will have access to a small kitchen (fridge, cooker, microwave, kettle and coffee maker) where you can prepare your own meals. Please let us know on the registration form if you wish to stay at the course price. Accommodation is payable on the spot. Overnight guests will also have the possibility to use the sauna in the evening, group sauna for 20€/hour.

Take with you: Kayak and other paddling equipment, dry suit/paddling clothing suitable for the conditions, change of clothes packed in a waterproof bag, water bottle, sunglasses, and food and snacks for the entire trip. In addition, instructor equipment such as a towing system, pump, kayak repair kit and first aid kit. Participants will be sent a more detailed list of the necessary equipment before the course begins.
